Founded in 1974, Pack 238 has been an integral part of the Scouting community at Zion Lutheran Church for over five decades. With an initial charter of 40 Cub Scouts, the pack has thrived under the leadership of committed individuals like Don Scronce, our first Cubmaster, and Baron Whitener, who served the pack for over 25 years alongside his wife Lois. Their dedication saw the pack grow to over 100 Cub Scouts at its peak, and their influence is still felt today. Zion Lutheran Church has been the unwavering sponsor of Pack 238, ensuring that Cub Scouting continues to be a vital part of the church's youth outreach program.
Our Cub Scouts go on to join Troop 238, which has an even longer history of excellence in Scouting. Chartered in 1945 as Troop 9, the troop has produced an impressive 121 Eagle Scouts, including John Weaver, its first Eagle Scout, in 1950. The troop’s commitment to developing strong leaders is exemplified by Wayne Reese, who served as Scoutmaster for over 25 years and left a legacy of service that continues today. Kevin Reese, Wayne’s son and one of the original members of Pack 238, now leads Troop 238 as Scoutmaster, ensuring that the tradition of Scouting excellence remains strong.
Over the years, Troop 238 has made a significant impact on the lives of thousands of boys, helping them develop important life skills, confidence, and leadership abilities. While 121 Scouts have earned the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout, many others have benefited from the values and experiences provided by the Scouting program at Zion.
As we approach 80 years of continuous service to the community and Zion Lutheran Church, both Pack and Troop 238 remain committed to fostering growth, leadership, and community service in the Scouts we serve. Zion Lutheran Church is proud to sponsor the mission to ensure that future generations of Scouts continue to thrive in a program built on tradition, values, and family involvement.
